This competition aims to encourage participants to create new ideas and solutions for industry challenges.
On the 26th of May, the modular house ideation competition will take place at the Latvian State Forests’ Zemgale Regional Customer Center in Jelgava. Within 4-6 hours, participants will create innovative solutions for the construction of wooden modular buildings.
Entrepreneurs, students, and industry representatives are invited to participate in online lectures and excursions leading up to the on-site ideation event in Jelgava. Participants will have the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the industry, network with peers, and learn from seasoned experts.
Following the ideation competition organised by “Latvijas Finieris,” the best teams will have the honour of participating in the next phase – 6 month concept development and prototype building incubator with mentors. This phase is coordinated by the research and innovation platform “Morberga Studija” in collaboration with “Meža un koksnes produktu pētniecības un attīstības institūts” (Forest and Wood Product Research and Development
Institute). The prize fund for the winning teams is up to 30 000 EUR, giving participants the opportunity to turn their innovative ideas into a reality.
Starting from April 18, a series of warm-up events in collaboration with the creative education platform “Creative Tuesdays” will be open to the public. Experts in the industry will share their experience on various topics, including modular homes, timber construction, material analysis, and prototyping. On April 26, participants and other interested parties will have the opportunity to take a tour of the “Pavasars” modular housing and window factory in Rauna, while on May 16, they will have the chance to visit the “Latvijas Finieris” factory in Bolderaja, Riga. The competition will be evaluated by a professional jury, taking into account the following criteria:
- Creativity and innovation;
- Feasibility and cost optimization;
- Usability, adaptability, and relevance to the target audience;
- Sustainability;
- Team competences;
- Quality of the presentation.
