Together we must do everything to end the war

On the morning of 24 February 2022, the management team of Latvijas Finieris made a unanimous decision to terminate any future relations with representatives of the national economies of the aggressor countries – Russia and Belarus. This applied to both the procurement of raw materials and the sale of birch plywood products. The second immediate decision of the company’s management was to redirect stable, sufficiently long-term financial support to the Ukrainian people. Our help system is based on a simple belief – we can help if we are strong ourselves, able to work and earn money without interruption. Therefore, the aid size is linked to the amount of logs processed in Latvijas Finieris mills – 5 euro for each cubic meter.

Our support for Ukraine is supporting the Western world within the framework of the European Union, technology and product development processes, education, science, culture... When these values are brutally, mercilessly attacked, it is our duty to defend them. Thanks to all the partners whose aid projects we have had the opportunity to participate in. We believe that together we can defeat this evil.

The Latvijas Finieris goal for 2022 was to allocate a total of 2.5 million euro – about 1% of the Group’s turnover, equal to 100 euro per month for each Latvijas Finieris employee. This goal was achieved, although the actual transferred funds were slightly less – about 2.2 million euro. The rest of the support will be directed in 2023, as we evaluate each transfer very carefully.

There is no reason to think that this support system will radically change this year. Of course, the future amount will depend on our capabilities and development perspective – how much we will be able to sell, how the income and profit will be formed. Therefore, in terms of money, we are cautious in forecasting this year's volume, but we will certainly continue to support Ukraine until the war is over,
