New metal processing workshop building opened at Iekārtu rūpnīca

By investing more than two million euros, a new metal processing workshop equipped with modern technologies has been built for Iekārtu rūpnīca, the machine-building and technical service centre of Latvijas Finieris. Its premises of 1300 m² are dedicated to metal stock storage and pre-processing – cutting, sawing and bending. The facility also includes a dedicated, high-capacity shot blast chamber for treating steel surfaces.
“Iekārtu rūpnīca is not only the centre of technical competence for Latvijas Finieris but also an important part of the Group’s day-to-day operations and overall growth. Investments in the processing of birch wood into high value-added products therefore go hand in hand with investment and development in the metal processing unit – the Equipment Factory. The new workshop building will not only open up new opportunities for mechanical engineering but it will also provide an even more modern environment and working conditions for employees,”

said Jānis Ciems, Chairman of the Executive Board of Latvijas Finieris, at the opening ceremony.

“With Iekārtu rūpnīca increasing its metal processing capacity and output of higher-value products, ensuring additional space was an essential and logical next step. The new metal processing facility will improve production flow and create additional jobs for two teams of metal fitters.Taking into account the fact that metal processing is an important cog in the Group’s process mechanism, investments in the development of Iekārtu rūpnīca directly contribute to the overall long-term growth of Latvijas Finieris by ensuring that birch wood is processed in the best possible way,”

says Māris Bumbieris, Director of Iekārtu rūpnīca.

He also highlights the benefits for the employees of the mill – the engineering specialists of the metal processing workshop and the quality group will now have access to modern office premises and new common areas.

“Thank you to the management of Latvijas Finieris for their far-sighted decision that gave us the opportunity to expand our production facility. But even greater thanks go to all the employees of Iekārtu rūpnīca, whose persistent work over recent years has enabled the mill to embark on an even broader and more promising path of development. As we get to know the new premises, we expect to be able to provide higher volumes of quality and sophisticated products,”

promises Māris Bumbieris.

For more than 20 years, Iekārtu rūpnīca has been the technical service centre of Latvijas Finieris, offering a wide range of services. The unit designs and manufactures veneer and plywood processing equipment of varying degrees of complexity, assembles, and carries out preventive diagnostics and servicing of this equipment throughout the Group, as well as the technical servicing and maintenance of fixed assets. Every year, new and unprecedented projects for non-standard production solutions are realised.

The role of Iekārtu rūpnīca in the Group’s major projects:
  • Partial production and full assembly of equipment at the Kohila Vineer mill;
  • Partial production and full assembly of equipment at the Furniers peeled veneer mill in Kuldīga;
  • Semi-automatic sheeting line for the Lignums mill;
  • Grinding line for the Lignums mill;
  • Robotic automatic edge-painting lines for plywood parcels at the Hapaks and Furniers mills;
  • Automation of the chipping circuit at the Verems mill.
